A Survey of Network Pricing Schemes
نویسنده
چکیده
With the Internet experiencing massive growth, new ways to recover ever rising costs and regulate network usage are becoming increasingly important. Several researchers have proposed pricing strategies and econometric models for regulating resource usage in a globally shared network environment. These approaches can take the form of simple \price setting", or can be more closely integrated with the admission control, congestion control, and bandwidth allocation functions of the network. This paper presents a summary of proposed pricing strategies for computer networks, as well as an experimental evaluation of both a static strategy and a dynamic strategy. Simulations of the static strategy show that network utilization decreases as the price per packet increases. Revenue, on the other hand, increases rst and then falls as the price per packet increases. In the dynamic pricing strategy simulations, the price varies over time as a result of user demand for band-width. As the number of users on the network increases , the price per unit of bandwidth increases. Further results and a summary of the pricing schemes that appear in the literature are outlined below.

Strategies to Overcome Network Congestion in Infrastructure Systems
Networked Infrastructure systems deliver services and/or products from point to point along the network. Demand for the services provided by such systems is typically cyclic, creating inefficiencies in capacity utilization. Congestion pricing provides incentives to shift demand from peak time periods to lower demand periods. This effectively increases the capacity of the system without the need...
متن کاملA Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks
Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...
متن کاملA New Real-Time Pricing Scheme Considering Smart Building Energy Management System
Real-time pricing schemes make the customers to feel the energy price volatility and improve their load profiles. However, these schemes have no significant effect on demand-side uncertainty reduction. In this paper, considering smart grid infrastructures and smart building Energy Management System (EMS), a new real-time pricing scheme is presented to reduce the uncertainty of demand-side. In t...
متن کاملCooperative network flow problem with pricing decisions and allocation of benefits: A game theory approach
Several real problems in telecommunication, transportation, and distribution industries can be well analyzed by network flow models. In revenue management, pricing plays a primary role which increases the profit generated from a limited supply of assets. Pricing decision directly affects the amount of service or product demand. Hence, in traditional maximum flow problem, we assume that the dema...
متن کاملPricing Data: A Look at Past Proposals, Current Plans, and Future Trends
Traditionally, network operators have only used simple flat-rate unlimited data plans to vie for customers. But today, with the popularity of mobile devices and exponential growth of apps, videos, and clouds, service providers are gradually moving towards more sophisticated pricing schemes, including dynamic pricing. This decade will therefore likely witness a major shift in network pricing sch...
